This is my weblog (or blog, if you prefer)…..I view this as a place to express my thoughts, opinions and works….(and I do neither view my facebook status message nor this blog as a place to publicly express private emotions….)…..So this is not a personal diary…This is more of a logbook of my ideas and thoughts, in a semi-finished or finished state, which are more or less presentable to the world.
As this is the first of my blog….I think I better list some details of mine, which are mostly contact details …
I do have an email ID and a facebook account and a skype account…. in all cases, username is sswarnendu (I think in 21st century, I dont need to tell anyone that an email ID means a gmail ID )…
By profession, I am a research student in Mathematics…………presently a PhD student at Ecole Polytechnique de Federale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland, working in Calculus of Variations.
I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India and I obtained my Masters Degree in Mathematics with specialization in Partial Differential Equations from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Centre for Applicable Mathematics, Bangalore, India, where I was a junior research scholar from 2009 to 2011.
Broadly speaking, my area of interest is analysis of partial differential equations and its connection to mathematical physics. More specifically, I am interested in Calculus of variations, Differential Inclusions, Partial Differential Equations, Homogenization etc.
My social and political view points are more difficult to characterize…. but simply put, I just can not accept that the central notions or the value system of human society should be based on profit-motif. Freedom, creativity and quality is basically the keywords in my value system. Kindly note equality is not among these. I do have my critiques and doubts about socialist ideas and traditional versions of communism…
I support free software movement, I am against internet censoring and any other from of censoring….
Now, some random and not so random quotes………..
- The purpose of education is produce independent thinkers, not tamed gentlemen.
- Doctors’ fees are heavy,Lawyers’ fees are high,
Artists are just supposed to entertain and die.
- In mathematics the art of proposing a question must be held of higher value than solving it.
- The essence of mathematics lies in its freedom.
Now, something about what I think of me…..
you can also view the following as some sort of statutory warning……
A sharp, intelligent friendly fellow with an intellectual bend of mind……..
I love talking……., debating & discussing with people………and many say I am damn good at all these ……
However, I am somewhat odd, quite reluctant to make any compromise with any sort of mediocrity and (as u all have inferred long ago) I am an egoist…….
